I read this as part of the SPSFC in which I'm part of Team Tar Vol On. The story held my attention from the start, and I was invested in the main character as well. The story was more Scifantasy than pure Sci Fi and the epigraphs at the end of each chapter added depth to the worldbuilding. The characters are well rounded and to me, that was the most important thing. This would appeal to fans of soft sci fi, space opera and epic fantasy.
