I listened about 90% of the way through with audiobook and had to stop because it was the second time I found problems with the recording. A whole chapter is repeated during Book 1, and Book 3 chapter 7 ends abruptly in the middle of a sentence.

Putting aside the faulty recording issue, I couldn’t get into the book by listening due to the ensemble cast format and their thick northern English accent. As an ESL, even after living in the States for nearly all my life, accents can severely reduce my listening comprehension. I slowed down the playback speed to 0.95x, but I still couldn’t get into it the way I had as a child when I read Mattimeo. But then there were the corrupted file issues, so I didn’t bother spending another hour and a half till the end.

I might give reading the text another go. I read Mattimeo in Japanese and remember liking it, so my 2/5 is more about my audiobook experience than the series as a whole.
