Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
3.0
As the book starts off, I found the protagonist to be kind of annoying but the more I understood about her environment and experience, the more I was able to connect to her story. This book speaks to the relationship Black women in the western world have with sexual objectification, navigating predominantly white spaces, cultural and generational differences in our family systems, stigmas about mental health care, friendship and how non-linear finding peace from these things can be. A lot of very modern references in this book and super relatable for any millennial Black woman who has endured and grown from traumas.
