I went back and forth with this book. Our intro was much too long and then when we finally got to the good part it whizzed by. For the most part, our protagonist was very unlikable, but maybe we don’t have to like every main character in order to gain something from their story. This was lent to me by my stepmom, who had a cabin in the woods in Ely that once belonged to her mom who struggled with mental illness, just like our protag, so I can see this hitting home with her, and I’m grateful she wanted me to read it too. Shoutout to Ely, MN, to the loons and the Boundary Waters and Gater’s Grilled Cheese Emporium, which are all part of this book and a big part of my family’s legacy as well.
