Pillow Forts and Hurricanes by Margherita Scialla
4.25
This story was filled with fantastic representation. So many varying romantic and sexual orientations and gender identities were included. I will always appreciate when a book is able to include diverse identities without that being the only thing about the characters. This story does a fantastic job discussing that self-discovery while also noting that it is not the only thing in life.
I have never gotten a better sense of the value of a queerplatonic relationship than I got from this book. It explained it in a way that made sense but left room for personal variation. For that I give Margarita massive props for that. This explanation makes this short story worth reading for everyone.
I also found this story to have good life lessons all throughout. I would've liked to have seen a bit more from it though. It felt like the relationships in the story were very fleshed out but the actual events not so much. Each scene did not have too much to it beyond the emotional aspect. If there was more plot incorporated, it would be a 5-star.
I received this book as an arc from Book Sirens, my review is honest and voluntary
