Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline

Did not finish book. Stopped at 40%.
The writing is very good, the premise is compelling, and a book about folklore and the nefarious means by which colonizers continue to steal land from indigenous people should have been right up my alley. Unfortunately, I found Joan to be an extremely frustrating character. Her husband seems to have been kidnapped and brainwashed (I didn't read far enough to learn exactly what happened to him, but I'm guessing it was bad) and all she can think about is trying to get him to have sex with her. Maybe worry about the trauma first, Joan, and the sex second.

Also, when she first finds him, and she's insisting he's her husband, and everyone is telling her she's drunk and delusional, it never occurs to her to take out her cell phone and show people a photo of him? This is obviously extremely besides the point of the book, but it just bugged me.
