This is the slowest burn of ALL the slow burns. It was amazing. Vanessa is sassy as hell and amazing and inspiring and one of my favorite female characters I’ve read in a romance in a long time. She’s determined and optimistic but not naive. Aidan is a stereotypical jock that is really rude and selfish at first but slowly grows on you - and even though his character is totally cliche I still loved him.

Aidan is a Canadian professional NFL player and Vanessa is his personal assistant. She’s been working for him for two years and she’s sick of him. He’s never smiled at her and never responds to her when she greets him in the morning, and she has bigger dreams of working in graphic design, which is what she got her degree in. Aidan goes against all the typical Canadian stereotypes, and he’s a vegan, which made him a very unique character in my opinion. This is a perfectly-crafted hate to love slow burn sports romance.

It took me days to get through this book because it’s pretty long for a romance! It was 430 pages on my e-reader! But yet I didn’t want it to end. And this is the slowest burn of a romance, which I really appreciate!! These characters don’t even admit attraction to each other for SO LONG.
That elevator scene though. 💕 AND THAT THUNDER STORM SCENE. My heart was screaming!! I don’t know why but I’m a sucker for the “I’m going to get deported so let’s get married” trope. I fucking love it and I eat that shit up every time lol.

These characters felt real and they stayed true to their character throughout the whole book which I liked too. They both have uniquely tragic lasts that you get to discover in an authentic way throughout the story. I also loved Zac as a side character - he’s such a happy little ball of sunshine and I adored him.

Overall, this book was a major surprise - I loved it! This is my first book from this author and I can’t wait to read more from her!
