Praise is the first book in the Salacious Players Club series. It follows Charlie as she discovers her self worth after a bad breakup. At the beginning of the book she has just broken up with her boyfriend Beau. They have moved out of their place together and she is seeking her half of the security deposit from their place together. Beau tells her if she wants her half then she has to go get it from his dad. When she gets to his dad’s house and is waiting in his office for him she gets mistaken for a sub. Emerson Grant quickly realizes his mistake and apologizes writing her a check for more than what her security deposit was originally. Later on he hires her as his secretary because he’s in the process of opening a exclusive kink club with some of his friends. Charlie also learns that Emerson is into the Dom/Sub lifestyle. Curious she does research online, and gets excited about the possibility of trying this out with Emerson. They have undeniable chemistry together, so they try out the dynamic on certain days that she works. Their feelings grow for each other beyond what they initially thought. Emerson’s love for his son and hopes for reconciliation with him, Charlie’s (who Emerson calls by her full name Charlotte) self-loathing inner thoughts about herself, and their secret relationship they’re trying to keep from the bratty Beau is a source of tension in the novel. It all comes to a head from a surprising source towards the end of the story.
I freaking loved this book so much! It was the perfect way to start this exciting new series, and I’ll be eagerly reading the next book. The things that Emerson taught Charlie about herself and her worth were beautiful. Seeing Charlie coming into her own by going to the club and experimenting with him was gratifying to see. I loved the club, and all the awesome kink styles that were present. The friendship group that Emerson has is also great. The heartwarming relationship Charlie has with her mom and how protective she was over her anime-loving sister Sophie, brought tears to my eyes. I haven’t been this moved by a kink-leaning story since I read ‘Bait’ by Jade West last year. Sara Cate is definitely a new favorite author!
