Gentling the Beast by L.V. Lane
5.0
L.V. Lane again gives us a wonderful story, and this time it actually ties into other books in the Coveted Prey universe. :D
We have met Doug and Jasmine before since they have had some small cameos in other books, so it was wonderful to finally read their origin story and how their relationship came to be. :D
It was also great to see some scenes from other POVs, scenes that have had me wondering what actually happened.
This book does contain some dark aspects, the Blighten is after all a war party and within said war party there is abuse and so forth - so there are definitely some triggers in this book.
Doug and Jasmine, however, is quite a light story with a big HEA. This is Omegaverse and Jasmine is a female Omega. Doug is half-orc and half-shifter. His father was an Alpha shifter, so Doug is also an Alpha shifter. However, he does not shift into a wolf. ;) Doug is also born mute and can not speak.
His beast is truly magnificent and definitely something to be scared of.
You can read this book entirely as a stand-alone, even though it is the 19th book in the series because though it ties together some scenes from other books, their story is entirely on its own. :)
I found Doug and Jasmine to be a wonderful pair, even if their initial introduction and reason to stay together isn't. Doug is a wonderful Orc with a kind heart and is super gentle to Jasmine, but he's also very much a huge orc that also battles, so it was the best of two worlds really. ;)
I really liked Jasmine, and though her past is sad, she really did the best she could with her circumstances, she is kind but she's also feisty. The book had me laughing on more than one occasion over their antics together. :)
