The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

3.0

3/5. Audiobook. Three solid stars. Given the political climate in the US at this time, many people have been talking about this book. I decided to download it on Audible. Claire Danes narrates and she does a great job. Her voice was comforting to me, even though the content was not. This dystopian novel is frightening and shows just what can happened if belief becomes more than just an idea worth fighting for.

The story was paced well for the audio book. I didn't feel very sorry for Offred and it almost seemed like that was the point. She lost so much, but she gave up for her petty vanities and wanting to feel human again. I related and commiserated with her, but I wasn't really moved. It was more the whole circumstance of her story that was scary, not Offred herself. I would recommend.
