Delicious story! Up there with Austen, Gaskell, Turgeniev...
I wish we knew what happened to Tom Marjoribanks in India, or more about his background. He's not just a feeble character that can be disposed of, as some may think from the way Lucilla treats him; on the contrary: I think he's the backbone to the story. What a shame the writer never took to the task of developing his character more deeply, for I think he's a lovely man.
