Holy heck this book was great. I read another review pointing out how Muir blends the gothic setting with irreverent humour about the gothic setting without cheapening either and they were right. I loved Gideon and her constant jokes, and I loved Harrow and all the ways she throws her whole self into anything she does and I loved the ninth house, and the way it's legitimately dark and not just trying to come off as edgy (though it does a lot of that too). The pacing was a bit slow at times but honestly I might just have been too stressed to appreciate everything going on in this wonderful book. Read it.

Upon reread: bumping this up to five stars because that's how I feel about it after taking my time to read it again without rushing. Definitely worth rereading with all the characters, and the nuance to Harrow and Palamedes that I missed the first time around. This book really only gets better the more I think about it.
