The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
4.0
I really enjoyed this!
I’ve seen other people say that the beginning of this book needs to be expanded more, and I agree. It feels like a lot of Lucy *telling* us she hates Josh and that he’s the worst but not actually showing us a) why she hates him or b) like...actual actions that show she hates him? if that makes sense? we’re just expected to believe they’re like arch nemeses from the get go and I would’ve liked to see more of the “hating game” I guess so we could get a better feel for their supposed dislike of each other.
BUT, I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and this is enemies to lover PERFECTION. I loved the way their relationship developed and slowly learning the softer side of Josh.
I’d like to note that once again an author has written a dark haired blue eyed man who’s kind of an asshole and once again I love him....this is all will herondale’s fault! he started it!
The only other big thing is I guess I saw the “plot twist” (if you can even call it that) coming from a MILE away. If it was intended to be this big reveal it didn’t land at all with me. And I also thought Lucy’s reaction to said event was...an overreaction? I don’t know I just personally didn’t see why she made it as big of a deal as she made it.
Overall a really great romance book! Definitely one of my new faves in the genre.
(But also why are they making a movie out of this...why must they make a movie out of Everything)
