Feelings: A Story in Seasons by Manjit Thapp is a tenderhearted graphic novel about anxiety. I’m an emotional and anxious person and I could wholeheartedly relate to the feelings presented in this book. Thapp’s lovely illustrations do most of the work to tell this story, and they present a journey of anxiety that changes alongside the changing seasons and natural world. It was refreshing for me to think about anxiety and mental health in this way, and I loved it. I took my time to sit with and fully absorb the art, and it was so soothing to do so. And to see a brown woman at the centre of the story? It feels like this book was made for me.
I’ve been wanting to read this for a long time and I’m happy I was finally able to get a copy! I’ve been a fan of Thapp ever since I picked up The Little Book of Feminist Saints a few years ago, and I’m excited to see more from her.
