Julia's House for Lost Creatures by Ben Hatke
5.0
There’s not a whole lot to this book as far as deeper messages or teachable moments or anything (well, I guess you could find some about being a good house guest and not hesitating to do what makes you happy as well as what needs to be done, but that’s not the focus of the book), but it is a nice little story about a girl who opens her house up to Lost Creatures, things get a bit crazy, she imposes order, and, we assume, everyone lives happily ever after. I really like the illustrations—the creatures are a lot of fun, and I even learned about a mythical being called a folletti, which I had never heard of before. The author explains them here: http://mrschureads.blogspot.com/2014/09/a-guest-post-by-ben-hatke-folletti.html I would enjoy reading this book aloud with a kid. :)
