An easy read set against the backdrop of WWI and WWII in London and Newcastle. The story concentrates mainly on the women left behind, and I liked that it wasn't about the poor working class, living a hard scrabble existence.
Secrets, lies and the social norms of the day are all at play in this novel based on a true story. Writing style quite informal, style seemed to change for the last few chapters, though that may be as a result of the author having to wrap everything up and rush to finish.
An OK read, not an author I'll likely seek out though I have another of her books on my TBR pile
