Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

4.0

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a master storyteller. I could not put this book down, though I felt that some questions were left un-answered.... What made Eugene so abusive? What happened that Mama had finally had enough? I'd love to hear the story from her point of view as well. Come to think of it, this story could be told from the point of view of each family member and each story would be different. I also enjoyed the depiction of Nigeria and a culture that's not my own and yet so familiar having spent most of my life in Africa. I also liked how she contrasted the form of religion that took place in Kambilli's house with that same religion in her aunt's house. This was just an overall great story.
