Okay, so 4 books into the series and this is the one that focuses on VERA! She has the most air time, so to speak, with Joe Ashworth and getting his own POV chapters along with one of this mystery's characters (instead of a few like in the previous books). This was as close to watching the show in book form as I could imagine and I loved it!

For fans of the show, I would say you could skip the first 3 books, but I did enjoy them a lot and have more background on Vera's upbringing through them.
