I loved this with my entire heart, really. From the characters to the plot, I feel like everything was developed beautifully. The setting remains to be enchanting and mysterious, so I am forever enamored with it.

First off, I want to talk about the Magister plot-line. While in a big picture sense the characters didn’t necessarily get leaps and bounds closer to catching the Magister, I felt like it was necessary to have that plot line be a little slower. Due to that, readers got more backstory on the Lightwood family, Will’s past, Jem and Will’s relationship with Tessa, and even more story with the side characters. This book was very character focused, and I l-o-v-e-d it! I love how each character has a unique and interesting plot line, so the reader is never bored. The character development in this book is setting up Clockwork Princess for ultimate success.

Let’s talk about the love triangle. I have mixed feelings on how things went down this book. I will say that I think it is written in a unique and enjoyable way, for sure. My only issue is how rushed Jem and Tessa’s relationship was. Had Jem and Tessa had more romantic or heartfelt scenes in this book, I would’ve 100% supported the proposal. I understand why Jem proposed, but I don’t jive with it (and no, it’s not because I want Will and Tessa together). On the other hand, the development between Tessa and Will was beautiful. I definitely think Will and Tessa are not over romantically. One last pet peeve I had, which is super nit picky, is the usage of the word love. I feel like while the boys do have a deep connection with Tessa, and constantly being in dangerous situations with her strengthened their feelings, it’s not love, yet. They met her only like a couple of months ago. I feel like they care deeply romantically for her, but don’t love her yet? Anyways, the love triangle’s interesting developments and uniqueness kept me intrigued!

The main characters killed it as always. William, James, and Tessa all have my heart. Their development was awesome in this book, but that’s all I have to say!

Ah, the Charlotte plot line was so saddening to me. It really brings in the theme of sexism, which is SO important. Women still face scrutiny for holding positions of power, so showing this in the book was super realistic and a great moment to give girl readers hope because Charlotte is a complete badass. I applaud Cassie for bringing that theme to light.

Lastly, the ending to this book was fun because we will now get to see Cecily Herondale! However, the whole “unknown-person-showing-up” trope is very meh to me. I feel like there would’ve been a better way to introduce Cecily.

Overall, this was a super enjoyable read for me. The only reason I took half a star off was because of how rushed Jem and Tessa seemed and the ending, but it’s not that big of a deal. I still loved this book wholeheartedly.
