The Haunting of Velkwood by Gwendolyn Kiste

5.0

Ok, wow!

This is one of those books that will stay with you! It is rare that a book holds my attention so fully that I finish it in one day. Partly because I never have that much time to sit and read, and also, because I just couldn't stop! This book had me in its grips from page one. I HAD to know what happened to this neighborhood and the people in it.

One day, the neighborhood was there, and then it wasn't. What could have happened to make it "dissappear" yet still kinda be there? Are there such things as ghosts? Why couldn't anyone enter? How did 3 girls get out just in time? Why are they no longer friends? Why can't anyone figure it out? 👀 I. HAD. TO. KNOW!

Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. This book was so interesting and unique. I really enjoyed the characters and how real and raw they felt. They were messy and imperfect and very relatable. The trauma and turmoil they went through were intense and heartbreaking. Each character was well fleshed out, so you could really connect with them all on some level.

The story itself was unbelievable, but in a good way. There were so many layers to it, and it somehow all fit together perfectly. It was all at once beautiful, horrifying, traumatic, and healing. There were elements of magic, friendshp, love, loss, and healing.

It's one of those books I really want to talk more about, but it is so much better if you read it for yourself. I promise you won't regret it! I don't re-read books often, but this will be one I'll be going back to.

All the stars. Just take them ALL!
