The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade

3.0

Rating: 3.5
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The main characters Alona and Will are, of course, based from stereotypes, but the author managed to add more facets to their personalities. In particular, I like how Alona is the queen bee because she has worked hard for it, and how she can be pretty manipulative. I also like that Will is not too emo about things, and his gloomy nature is justifiable. His classical music playlist and fascination with Alona's legs help too. I was a bit confused why he's not as adjusted to his condition at his age, though. I kind of expected the romance part, but I liked how they steadily grew into that, with no really cheesy, gag-inducing moments. Alona and Will just became more concerned and protective of each other. But what I like most about the book is the lore surrounding the ghosts, Middleground, the Ouija board, Will's abilities, the whole supernatural element. This book is pretty easy to breeze through, because the plot has a nice pace with some twists.
