Of course, this is directed at children and written thusly. A lot of telling, little showing, forseeable plot line and *loads* of plot conveniences, all that. But, and this may have to do with the nostalgia I have for this series, I enjoyed it. I actually cried once, and the humour even made me laugh quite often, which is something few children's books accomplish. Also, the messages portrayed, though lacking in subtlety, are very sweet and noble. I will definitely give this series to my future children.
