Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
3.0
I liked the idea of this book but ultimately, I don't think it quite delivered. It got better towards the end but I really struggled with the writing style used for the narrator. At times it felt like I was reading the diary of an 11 or 12 year old (a bit too childlike) and then out of nowhere a grown-up thought or an out-of-place philosophizing sentence would appear and completely pull me back out of the story again. It felt quite choppy in that sense.
I don't think I liked all the information about the dead people she was writing to as well. Some of it worked, and I appreciated it when that happened. It made sense. Other times though it felt like I was reading a "Fact File" on the back of celebrity Top Trumps cards or something.
I enjoyed it more towards the end of the book but this was a bit of a miss for me.
