Normal People by Sally Rooney
Did not finish book. Stopped at 60%.
There are several reasons why I couldn't complete this book, but let me share a few things that bothered me.
Firstly, the lack of quotation marks during conversations made it confusing to distinguish between dialogue and regular text. I had to double-check constantly, which made reading tiring. The repetitive sentences like "she said," "she laughed," and "she nodded," added after every dialogue (because of the lack of quotation marks), making the writing seem dull.
The themes in the book were all over the place, and the plot could have been more engaging. It felt like Marianne and Connell were stuck in the same place, with no development in their relationship. By the time I reached 40% of the book, I lost interest completely.
Besides the boring plot, I don't find any character here likable. I mean, what's the point of continuing reading a book if I don't like both characters and plots? Everyone in the book seemed self-centered, which left me feeling frustrated.
While Marianne and Connell might be relatable to some, I didn't find their story interesting enough to keep going.
In the end, "Normal People" remained an unfinished journey for me.
Everyone's reading experience differs, and what didn't work for me might still interest others.
