The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

adventurous mysterious tense medium-paced

3.5

When I read the first 2 books in the series, I loved all the mystery and plot twists. They were written beautifully and were quite fast paced.  But this book felt different and more like a Part 2 to The Hawthorne Legacy than a standalone third installment. I didn't find it as gripping as the other two, but it wrapped everything up nicely and answered most of the questions I had. It was captivating and engaging after the first third, but it started out slower and felt kind of unnecessary in the series overall. It was still a good book, but not one I'll read again.
