4.25
Plot: 4/5
Characters: 4.5/5
Relationships: 4/5
World-Building: 4/5
Genre: 4/5
Plot: Like every other Rick Riordan book the plot was amazing, with perfect pacing which meant I generally don't find myself getting bored whilst reading the book. I loved the way it was building up to the final battle - because when the battle came it truly was amazing! I haven't read any PJ book in over a year and despite being a bit hazy on what happened in the last book it was super easy to remember once I started reading
Character: Rick Riordan's best skill is writing characters, each one is just so unique and special, I loved Apollo's characterisation in this one so much, we stan a self-aware king (even if he did kind of kill his gf at one point) Meg continued to be great and it was so nice to see some of the other characters from Camp Jupiter.
Relationships: Some of the classic relationships were there like Frank and Hazel as well as looking at the effect that Jason's death had on everyone. I loved the way RR includes past relationships Apollo has into the myth (also loving the bisexual disaster he is, very relatable) I was so happy when Diana/Artemis turned up, nice to see some wholesome sibling content from Apollo and her.
World-Building: It's been over a decade since I read a book set at Camp Jupiter so it's all a bit vague to me but I love it, especially when looking at the contrast between Camp Jupiter and Camp Half-Blood. I like the mishmash of Roman and Greek myths that work so well together and I loved the setting of San Fransisco, it was really cool to see the differences between the West Coast and the East Coast
Genre: Trials of Apollo is shaping up to be a close contender for my favourite Percy Jackson series, I love the original but Apollo is such an iconic character and his internal monologue is so relatable. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will all end and if he will become a God again.
