My first impression of this book was that it is literary, which is to say pretentious. But the style was also right for the story. Reading it, I got caught up in an entirely new world, which was magical and comfortable and beautiful all at once. Erin Morgenstern was also entirely effective at creating stories within stories that felt like myths that twisted around into new ideas.
