This book was pure comfort. I had a half smile the whole time. It was like bread fresh from the oven. Soft and sweet and maybe just one more slice and oops it is all gone and I don't regret a thing.
I was holding off on starting this until I needed a palette cleanser because I knew that, based on my experience with This Spells Love, it would be a delight.
The angst was minimal. Enough that it keeps you invested but not so much to raise your heart rate. The setting was immaculate. The dash of magic was just the right amount.
But the points that set this apart from every other magical realism rom-com?
1. The uniquely Canadian references. Yes, Tim Hortons was the obvious one, but when kilometres per hour was referred to as "clicks"... amazing.
2. The end of the book contains a Prime Time Romance Easter Egg Hunt! I wish I had known this so that I could see how many I would have caught on. This is me telling you there are 8 easter eggs - now when you read it, keep track of everything that you catch.
3. The book's end also lists late 90's/early 2000's TV boyfriend opinions that may be controversial (though I fully agree with #1).
4. A cake recipe! If I enjoyed baking in the least, I'd give it a try. Maybe I'll just send it to my sister instead.
Big thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for a digital advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
