Oh, how I adore this book. I'll write a proper review later, when I have access to my laptop and I'm more able to articulate my thoughts, but genuinely I loved Boyfriend Material and I can't think of a single thing I didn't like. The cast of characters was amazing, the main romance was wonderful and I rooted for them so much, and the writing was just my style. I loved the humour, too - - it was exactly my type. Just, ahh, it's so good.
So, the update. Mostly what I loved about this book was that, while it followed the basic template and structure of a romcom, it had a lot more depth. There was real character growth, and that was part of the reason you couldn't help but root for Luc and Oliver; they really did support each other and help each other, and it was wonderful to see. Also, and I think I'm only just realizing how much I love this, it explored the way people cope with intimacy and trust issues in relationships (if you've read the third Simon Snow book, it's a similar vibe) in a very realistic and relatable way.
There's so much I love about Boyfriend Material. From the incredible cast of supporting characters to the witty quips to its thoughtful exploration of very serious and important issues, it's full of incredible things. Give it a shot! You won't be disappointed.
