The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy by Anne Ursu
5.0
4.5 stars. Enormous thanks to the author for sharing The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy with me and my reading group.
Oh, the last line.
And so many in between. Such a strong allegory about power: what people will do to keep it, whom they will oppress, the lies they will tell.
Brilliant MG/YA fantasy that is set in a world built beautifully in the early centuries of what has a European feeling to it.
The characters are so interesting that I found myself wanting to know more about them sooner. And while I understand why the author held back their backgrounds, I hope it doesn’t frustrate young readers who have curious minds. I LOVED Marya’s bravery and curiosity, her quick mind and her intuition. These are all powerful tools that are often underestimated in the female and feminine, especially in western, male-dominated cultures.
The girls of Dragomir Academy learned that “reading is power; education was power; information was power.” It is my fervent hope that all young people take this to heart so they can help “remake the world.”
Out in October. Preorder from your local indie as soon as you can!
