I think I enjoyed this more than Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone - either that, or I've just got more used to the writing style and spent less time worrying about the "clues" and more time enjoying the story.
After Ernest sold his story of surviving a serial killer's attack on his family, he finds himself part of an elite group of mystery writers attending a literary festival that takes place on a train crossing the wilds of central Australia. He's suffering from writer's block, and what would really help him would be another murder...
In no way could you say this is a realistic crime novel, but the characters are quite fun and there is a lot of humour in how the author approaches the tropes of crime fiction.
Part of me hopes he stops writing this way whilst he's ahead, but another part of me is also intrigued how far he can take it...
