The Secret to Superhuman Strength by Alison Bechdel

4.0

Another brilliant graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel. I love how she told her life story, decade by decade, through her engagement with physical activity. Woven throughout, in an unlikely fashion, are parallels she draws between her life and the Transcendentalists, Romantic poets, and Beat poets. These threads tie her athletic journey to her desire for self actualization and nature brings it all full circle. I love the meta-narrative ending, too. I can't wait for her next book.
