Royalty and Ruin by Charlotte E. English
3.0
I enjoyed this instalment of the Modern Magick series more tha the last, but it was still a pretty run-of-the-mill read. I had a similar problem with the vocabulary in this book as I did in the first couple: a lot of the words felt forcibly studious and pompous.
Also, I find myself being confused by Ves. I think this is down to English starting to incorporate some forms of direct address with the reader. I understand Ves is recounting her adventures with the Society, but it's starting to feel quite like a diary. I'm not entirely sure I like that, to be perfectly candid.
I am loving the smaller details that arise throughout these narratives though! Like Alban's secret and Ves' mother; I think these really flesh out the story and the characters!
