The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
4.0
I think this book has so much potential, but I had to stop a couple of times halfway through because the historical aspects dragged. This is a ME problem, but I had trouble digesting the information thrown at me during the war portion. By the end, it felt like I was reading a different book altogether because it was written so that you could feel everything that was going on (and that's a good thing - but note that there are a lot of trigger warning scenes). Rin's stubbornness made her character annoying and unlikable, but hopefully, she will grow out of that in the next book.
