A really solid crime mystery about a young girl who goes missing and her mother’s journey to find answers. This book was gifted to me a few years ago and I’m glad I finally got around to reading it. Works super well on audio — the narrator has a few distinct voices for the characters and I never got confused on who was speaking and whether we were in the past or present.

I was intrigued with the story from the beginning and I did not lose interest at any point. The characters were mostly likable, even the ones who were not meant to like. The mystery wasn’t far-fetched, at least not for this genre. The author gives you breadcrumbs so you can easily follow a long with the story but still leaves you guessing about what is actually happening.

A personal gripe that not many others will have — I find it SO WEIRD to have a main character share my name. Noelle is not very common, and to here it over and over, with a British accent none the less, was strange. It definitely took some getting used to.

Then She Was Gone has some topics of focus that can be difficult for some readers. I recommend checking trigger warnings if you are uncomfortable with stories about missing children/kidnapping/child abuse.
