One of my favorite books! I find it very easy to get into and fun to read
July 1st 2024 Reread - . In terms of YA fantasy, this book is excellent in my opinion. It pokes fun at many traditional fantasy tropes while also making a poignant and very real point against the romanticization of honor won through violence. Serene and the elven society also are a perfect satire of the way human society treats women, reversing the roles to drive home how ridiculous our gender roles are. This is both comedic and a well done commentary. I also love the slow burn of the romance in this. Elliott is a delightful character, again not your typical fantasy hero, but very funny and enjoyable to follow.
