Ghosts of Athens: History and Haunting of Athens, Georgia by Tracy L. Adkins
4.0
It was fun reading a book of local ghost stories. I knew almost every open-to-the-public place mentioned and even know one of the people mentioned by name, which was a fun surprise.
My commentary from while reading:
- it is interesting how many university buildings are supposedly haunted
- Jo Brown Hall: it’s crazy that this haunting happened so recently (1970s) and that the cleaners refused to work after dark and that it was bad enough that the university converted it away from dorms because people did not want to live there. They actually sealed off the room where he died. I sort of want to go see the stairwell that leads to nowhere because they walled off that part of the building
- Pg 78 I know it’s a local book so I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am for seeing the name of someone i actually know! Jeff Montgomery who works for the ACC government. In relation to the Morton Theatre.
- Pg 149 Where the Athens Memorial Park now stands used to be a TB sanatorium. The lady in charge of the Athens Creative Theatre actually mentioned some creepiness related to their building in the park at one of the shows I recently went to.
- Pg 160 it creeps me out that they “moved” the cemetery in order to build more stuff on campus. 1) that seems like super bad mojo 2) like they actually did, how awful is the idea of them missing (or purposefully leaving) some bodies and then discovering them by accident during later construction?! And 3) AGAIN, this seems like such a bad idea because of the bad mojo! This is the exact plot of the Poltergeist people!
