I’m hovering on a 4-4.5 star rating. Mainly because I feel a little lost behind the magic. I really need to reread this at a slower pace. That said, I enjoyed it. It was written more like urban street lit meets Harry Potter HBCU edition. I correctly guessed at some of the plot points and often found myself anticipating certain things and tropes. It was hard to stop comparing it to other books that are similar.
