I read this book over 6 years ago and had forgotten a lot of it. I know lots of people find it to be slow and not as exciting but honestly, I loved it. I loved spending time with the characters, seeing them face challenges and grow. I loved seeing the relationships develop, and SO appreciated how one in particular was written as one of support and trust even when characters don't understand each other. I especially appreciated how much agency and dignity the main female character is given, even as she wrestles with her identity. There aren't a ton of female characters but they are all given nuance and distinctiveness, which I value.
Lest you think the book was all talking, I have to mention it had some really stunning, cinematic fight scenes, too. And the end has so many big things happen that have been quietly foreshadowed throughout. All in all, I figured I'd enjoy a re-read, but couldn't have guessed id enjoy it this much.
