Ghost Medicine is a coming-of-age story detailing the experiences of four friends over the course of one summer in the modern American West. The themes are not novel, they've been done again and again, though never quite like this. I particularly like the use of the sheriff as the villian to illustrate the idea that a big part of growing up is questioning authority. Through protagonist Troy's interactions with his small town's two central powers, he learns an even bigger truth: that "justice" can never be won in such an unbalanced society as our own.

So good! Read it.
