“my aim is to understand love. i know how alive i felt when i was in love, and i know that everything i have now, however interesting it might seem, doesn’t really excite me.”

Paulo Coelho did it again, i love his writing style and the way he wrote his character. Through the story, i felt i’m also learning along the way with the character.

This book is about Maria, a prostitute who tried to find love. Love through person, books, understanding, opinion, experience. She loves to find the meaning of everything, if she doesn’t know something she isn’t hesitant to ask questions or learn about it from books. she’s the type of character who always gains something from her life experience, most of it enhances her character and makes her a better person. Since the beginning, i already sense that she has this mature capability that could take her in the long run and make her survive in the human rivalry.

This book is packed with philosophical aspects, biblical context, mythology, folklore, historical events, and human discovery that help the characters understand life on a deeper level from so many sides. i love how other characters shaped Maria’s character and opinion about the world.

My favourite part is when she wrote her diary, it’s so poetic and beautifully written, and it also includes the life lessons she got from the event.

Some choices confuse me and don’t sit right, but the way the writer influences me as a reader to believe that choice is for the best is terrifying (on the good side, it shows how well Paulo writes this passage)

I learned about hard work, curiosity, and being open-minded, and never stop learning despite whatever background someone has, it doesn’t stop us from growing and knowing more. especially when life itself never stops shocking us with its twists.
