House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

I just want to say that this book is very special to me on a sentimental level. The week when I started reading this was a week full of worried thoughts. But every time I pick up this book, I find that I am able to forget all about it. SJM has a way of sucking me into her world and making me want to live in it for a little while longer, and because of what I felt during that time, I was able to connect and empathize with the characters on a personal level. So whenever I felt like crying for no reason, I would pick this up to make myself forget about everything. I was very grateful for that.

Having read her previous series, I felt a sense of familiarity going through House of Earth and Blood. The characters, especially, reminded me so much of her characters from her other series (Hunt was a lot like Rowan IMO) but I don’t mind at all because I loved each of them nonetheless. This book was sooo SJM, and gosh, I missed her writing.

This could’ve been a 5-star if only the starting chapters didn’t feel like a massive bucket full of water being dumped straight at me. Infodumping is a huge pet peeve for me as it really affects my immersive experience of the whole book and because this goldfish brain of mine is always easily overwhelmed XD

The last 2 weeks have been rough (lol i can’t even form a cohesive review), but if I were to pick a world wherein I would gladly be lost in, it would be Crescent City 🌙
______

Update: editing this to 5 stars because I kept thinking about it and I realized I loved it more than I thought I did despite all the infodumping.
