Outwitting History: The Amazing Adventures of a Man Who Rescued a Million Yiddish Books by Aaron Lansky

4.0

This is pretty fascinating, honestly. It’s an interesting blend of memoir, Jewish history and interesting stories about some of the wacky characters he encountered in the course of his work. My favorite part was seeing how these peasants who had *nothing* still prioritized books and reading and literacy - in other words, these are my people (and I come by it honestly!). As a librarian, I would have liked to know more about the sorting and cataloging of the books they acquired, but maybe that’s just me. :) Highly recommended, if you’re interested in these sorts of things.
