A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway
3.0
Hated it at first - 2 stars
Got better eventually - 3 stars
The ending saved it for me - 3.5
I’d rather a book start bad but get better in the end/have a great ending, than start great and run out of steam and slide into mediocrity.
This one is not in my list of favorite classics or impressive classics. It was meh most of the time. His repetitive use of the same word and the same idea, even within the same sentence, was killing me.
The first page alone nearly gave me a migraine.
It definitely improved as it went on and the story got more interesting eventually. It was hard to care about any of the characters but he finally wrung the emotion out of me by the end.
