The plight of the disgraced teacher felt waaaay off base for the plot of a children's book. Would an 8-12 year old genuinely be interested in that storyline? Yet, I could see the intention and lure behind the "unteachable" class of misfits that gets saved in the end - that part worked. Second half was much better than the first.
