Paperbacks from Hell: The Twisted History of '70s and '80s Horror Fiction by Grady Hendrix, Will Errickson
4.0
I’m new to horror and have been enjoying a lot of contemporary writers like Stephen Graham Jones, Nick Cutter, and Brian Evenson. It was a delight to go through the 1970s and 80s with Grady Hendrix and watch as the horror boom went through its phases. I have many authors, horror imprints, and books to check out now. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the horror trends through these two decades and how the chapters were themed as such. Recommended for any horror fan, new and old.
I listened to the audiobook but thumbed through the $2.99 Kindle edition to see all of the wonderful paperback cover artworks he sprinkled throughout the book. One of my favorite things about collecting books is the cover art and Hendrix throws what seems like hundreds of covers into the text with sidebar annotations. Also, at the end, he includes mini bios of selected publishers and authors. Great stuff.
