The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

5.0

I loved the sleepy, poetic quality of the book. The stories of four characters are told like the remains of a dream, significant while dreamt, and incoherent, falling apart moments after the dreamers wake up.
I didn’t have any emotions towards the characters per se, but I didn’t feel like it was a failure of the author, like it was an objective of the novel, to make a reader sympathise. It was rather to listen to those broken dreams and to dream my own.
