Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

3.0

3.5-veering towards 4.

it's a great book, i like it a lot. there's something about the inevitable ending that I don't like I suppose, in the way it's executed. maybe my rating will change to a full five in the future on another re-read, though I doubt it.

regardless, I love the writing, I love the tone, I love the use of the non-linear plotline. personally I feel like the children's crusades as a motif could have been explored a teeny bit more.

(edit)
reading other reviews and some more of his other work has made me realize how uncreative and dismissive Vonnegut is to women, it's not disappointing because I could sense it coming from a mile away, but I've returned to edit my review to reflect that. if you think about this, not a single woman character in this book was anything besides a 2D cardboard cutout. is that important? to me, yes.
