My Happy Marriage, Vol. 1 by Akumi Agitogi
3.0
A heartwarming Cinderella-esque romance set in a world based loosely on the Meiji and Taisho eras. It touches on abuse, classism, and healing after survival.
The plot itself was decent and I loved Miyo's journey and her quiet strength that carried her throughout. All the flaws lie in the details: there was no magic system to speak of and apparently Kiyoka's powers had no limitations. Also he, the love interest, did not have much of a personality outside being beautiful and overprotective of Miyo, the unholy trinity of a shoujo love interest. I would be lying if I said that I was not particularly turned off by the fact that female Gift bearers' sole purpose of existence was passing it on to the next generation: the author could conjure supernatural evil entities and magical abilities that shaped the entire social hierarchy of their world, but women using the powers they already had is a step too far?
