Nine Lives by Peter Swanson
Did not finish book.
This book was just so immediately and aggressively meh. Mediocre writing, stilted and awkward dialogue, bland characters that get about two pages of introduction each before moving on to the next.
Out of the first four characters, three were cheating on their partners, and the last one was implied to be in a potential pedophilic student/teacher relationship. Four characters all thrown at you at once, and none of them had any memorable traits whatsoever beyond their sex lives, and even those are repetitive and boring. I PROMISE that people think about things other than sex once in a while. The author doesn’t seem to know that though. </3
The chapters were all 2-3 pages long, and somehow despite that, there was still such an unnecessary amount of boring detail, and there was far more allusion to fucking than to the plot and inciting incident, which got only the briefest mention in each. I only got about 20 pages in, before this all was just Too Much. I can’t make myself keep reading. It’s so bad.
